Bearcat Blog - Celebrating One Year of Fun

The little mouse is preparing the accolades for his friend, the Baldwyn Bearcat...

This Blog started one year ago tomorrow (March 1). I have been very pleased with the stories, photos, comments, and above all, the emergence of many old friends here and on the e/mail group. The pictures many of you sent were greatly appreciated. They are the best reminder to us what happened back in those great golden days of our youth in and around the Baldwyn area.

Many of our first friends are not with us anymore. The inevitable will eventually wipe out any of these reminders of our early life and we will be replaced with another generation of grown-up kids. The memories they have of growing up in Baldwyn will also live on for some time.

Again, thank you all for your enthusiasm and assistance with the postings and photos. I am virtually out of material, but hope that what I have remaining will keep us going for as long as possible. Someone said "after all, just how much can you say or write about about a small town 50 years ago?" I would like to reply that there is much to be said, and the memories of scores of people will reveal many pages of memorable events and happenings.

If you have any stories or photos you would like to see here please submit them and we'll be sure to post them.

Thanks and God bless,

Carl

  1. Carl, Just wanted to say thanks again for creating and maintaining the blog. I log on daily and thoroughly enjoy seeing the pictures and reading the comments. While I fall at the very end of the blog's inclusive group,(Class of '66), my siblings, relatives and so many of my friends were older. I rarely ventured more than a couple hundred miles away from Baldwyn through the first 19 years of my life and then for only very short periods. Therefore, Baldwyn's people and culture have had a profound and lasting positive affect on me and for that I will be eternally grateful.

I believe that everyone who regularly visits the blog realizes how much of your time and effort are required to keep it current and entertaining. It is my sincere hope that you will continue that effort and that you will be sustained by knowing that so many of us so greatly appreciate it!

  6. In one of his poems T.S. Eliot wrote, "We shall not cease from exploration and at the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time."

Thank you Carl for taking us back where we all started. Perhaps now we do know the place a little better that in so many ways shaped who we are.

  7. Thanks Henry for quoting one of my favorite authors, although I admit he's a favorite because of his extensive writing about cats. However, you and Mr. Elliot both said what I had in my heart but couldn't put into words.

Carl, you've brought both memories and friends back to me, and that's an immeasurable gift. Thank you.

  8. Some of the Bloggers are probably still on Mickey Spillane. He was the greatest.

  9. Mickey Spillane was a good crime writer, but Stacy Keach wasn't the actor I would have chosen to play Mike Hammer.

  10. Yeah, that Stacey Keach thing didn't capture Mickey. He was a good crime writer but his way with the ladies was the main attraction except the men kept getting shot right when they got down to serious business with the buxom blonde.

  11. Speaking of buxom blonds, what ever happened to Sue Dobbs?

  12. Last I heard was late 60's when she was married to Johnny Huckabee from Cedar Hill area and living in Memphis.
