The east side of the school was where the girls were during recesses and lunch break, usually, as evidenced by the photo. Guys were grouped at the field ticket booth and shop end of the gym, especially the smokers.

I wonder if Buddy Miller stayed as tall as she was while growing up. She is a head and part of shoulder above the other girls in the upper left photo.

ReplyDeleteThe boys are more familiar, Milton Nanney, Jerry Rowan, Jackie Cole, and Mansel Prewitt and a couple of others.

Carl, you flatter me. My skills deteriorate rapidly as photos advance to the 1960's from 50's, especially if pictures are smaller. I think the boys are Milton, David Rowan, Gary Norman, Jackie Cole, ? Roberts (brother of Larry on Ted) and Mansel Pruitt but could be wrong on several.
ReplyDeleteThat has to be Virginia Seay in top right picture so maybe Peggy McElroy and Betty Green are there as well.
Would that be 1960 crowd at the beach? Carolyn McCarley, if so maybe Betty Outlaw and Roberta. Clarene and Ellen will have to pick us up on that one since it may not be 1960. Don McK or Milton Copeland would know if it is 1960.
Top left has me stymied. If that is Buddy, maybe Ann Green?? No confidence on this one.
I used to see Buddy Miller around Jackson some and can't remember her being very tall. Maybe she was with a younger group.

I believe Buddy is standing on something. She wasn't that tall.

I think the shop boys were making rat poision to distribute to the public. Seems that was one of Mr. Hoover's projects. We would mix it up in the barrel and put a handful or so in a paper bag and seal it up. He told us the rats would chew through the paper to get to the bait. That is Mickey Roberts I believe in the photo.
