Basketball Stars, Queens, and More Southern Belles

Top: Sandra Putt?, Ellen Mink, and ??? - Another good example of true southern belles. Date of photo is on right.

Center: This appears to be James Bryant crowning either Linda Johnson or Monte Caldwell at a football game, assisted by Wallis Nelson. There is a distortion in the photo. Girl holding flowers unknown - head not visible (I think)... study it closely and tell us what you think.

Lower photo is of Maxine in action. What a basketball player she was! One of many others at BHS, however.

  10. Hey Betty M,

Johnny can see his old NEMCC teammate Vincent Del Negro by watching the Chicago Bulls / Boston Celtics basketball playoff; his son Vinny coaches the Bulls. Anyhow TV showed lots of shots of Vincent, the father, today. He still looks good.

Well anon, 2 and a half legged young women are better than 1 and a half men! (Referring to the stupid TV show)

  13. Remember Vince well. He penned a very colorful note in my NE yearbook--which delighted my daughters no end.

As to Wallis photo question. It's he all right, but several of us advised him to leave his flowers in the car...........

    Could'nt resist, Wallis.

  15. After 3 days of study I will be willing to bet my monthly relief check that is Monte Jean being crowned. How about that, Red???

  16. I would almost bet 2 months worth of SSI on the same identification the poster above wrote about.

Monte Caldwell was 3 years ahead of me, but I remember her well and she was beautiful and poised.

  19. Virginia, who is holding the flowers behind Gail? I have been told it is Pat Love. Is that correct, if you can remember?

  20. She looks like a Gamble, can't re

    member her first name. vt

  21. sorry vt--but if that is J Agnew & G Dillard-then I am ally-oop-ha----someone check a 1956 yearbook(i dont have one) & end this discussion-LOL

  22. Jim Agnew was out of high school in 1956. The picture is prior to that. James Bryant was a senior in 1956. The annual does not show him crowing a queen. Mr. and Miss BHS was Monte Gene and Jimmy Whitaker. Monte was a Junior in 1956. So ally..oop there you are.

  23. Thank you very much Jimmy G.

  24. look at your 1956 annual again -Jim G-Linda was Athletic queen that yr wearing a lovely crown of aluminum foil with polarbear fur around her neck/haha--Monte & Edith Ann Gorden were maids--James Bryant was a senior & member(probably captain) of the football team--check it out-look at several snapshots of James in the annual & compare

  25. James Bryant graduated in 1956 and Judy in 1961 so maybe they had an eighth grade maid one year; sure looks like Judy to me.

    ReplyDelete
  26. boy!!! haha--can really come up with some crap on here---thats James Bryant--thats Linda Johnson--its CERTAINLY not Judy Bryant/LOL

  27. Just one problem... James Bryant did not have a flat top and Jim Agnew did in this picture. James never wore a flat top and I should know, he lived across the street from me. So sorry, its not James. And in all reality, it really doesn't matter to me either way.

  28. I for one enjoyed all the commentary, still interested in all the photos.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I'm enjoying all the speculation, also, as I know who all 3 people are in the football queen photo.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Well 1226, wait a couple months and post the names. I will be looking for it.

    ReplyDelete
  31. James Bryant definitely had a flattop like everyone who had hair during this time did--but dont think the photo in question necessarily shows him with a flattop---SO Jim G by saying you dont give a c--- are you conceeding???haha

    ReplyDelete
  32. Look at James' senior picture in the 1956 annual and tell me that's a flat top. And if this was a jury trial an eye witness would win the day. At least two said that they were there !!!! And you must not have gone to BHS or you would had known how to spell conceding...Mrs Martin would have given you an F. Tell us your name so we can see how creditable you are.

    ReplyDelete
  33. hey Jimmy G--the problem is not my English or my spelling--Its typing & computers-haha--i made an A for 4 yrs under Mrs Martin --by the way--you said "would HAD known"--dont Martha Ruth would have given you an A for that one--haha
