Need some assistance in naming as many of these Baldwyn First Christian Church attendees as possible. The only ones we have tentatively ID'd is Sidney Merle Duncan behind lady in black clothing and hat on right (holding baby) who may possibly be Mrs Stults. We think young boy standing on front row second from right may be John Melvin Duke (with striped shirt). If that is so, maybe his mother Evelyn Duke is directly behind Sidney Merle.
Your help in the identification is greatly appreciated. We think this photo could be from 1948-50 and made at the old church on North Third Street, behind waters Funeral Home.

Great photo but can't identify anyone at first glance. Maybe some church members of that time will come through.
ReplyDeleteIf that is Melvin, wouldn't the time frame be more like 1945?
ReplyDeleteI believe it is older than 1953, but Bobby Corbett and all of Duke Young's family and maybe Rinehart's should be there.
DeleteI think Mr Richard Mauldin, who was a butcher at Hopkins and Cunninghams may be the tallest man on back row. He went to Christian Church and his wife and kids Charles, Guy and Ruth should also be there somewhere but can't id.
ReplyDeleteAt what age was Sidney Merle crippled and was it polio?
ReplyDeleteHe contracted polio when he was a baby -- not sure of the exact age.
DeleteIs that Earl Adams in the black suit behind Sidney Merle Duncan?
ReplyDeleteTom Mauldin of Tom's Drug Store is on the top left where the tear in the picture ends. Sidney Merle Duncan is as you described. His sister, Quinona, is on the second row approx. second from the left, with a bow in her hair. Moving right two persons is John Harris (next to the young man with the white shirt and tie. John graduated BHS in 1950 which would date this picture about 1945/46 judging from John's guesstimated age in this Pic. Cannot recognize any of the others.
ReplyDeleteIn the second row from the top, to the right of the crease in the picture, the woman in the cloche hat is Marcella Arnold, and to her right is her sister, Laura Arnold Duncan, who was Sidney Merle and Ouitona's mother.
