Interesting since the current field in Green Bay is called Lambeau Field.
ReplyDeleteDID ANY BALDWYN GUNTOWN BOONEVILLE PLAYER GO ALL THE WAY TO THE PROS??? AND TUPELO TOO?
ReplyDeleteJackie Simpson, who was Coach Jimmy Jobe's good friend and helped him coach in 1955 pre-season, played in the Canadian League. He was from Corinth. Can't remember if Ken Kirk of Tupelo played in the pros. Both were on the great late 50's, early 60's Ole Miss teams.
ReplyDeleteJack Gregory, down at Okolona, father played pro football back then; I think for the Cleveland Browns. Frank M. "bruser" Kinard and Junie Hovis played for the New York Giants, back then.
ReplyDeleteOf course Chunking Charlie Connerly, from Clarksdale or Alligator, played for the Giants and had the misfortune of playing against Johnny Unitas in the "greatest game playoff" in 1958.
ReplyDelete"Chunking" Charley Connerly also used to be one of the cowboys on the Maroboro cigarette commercials. He also ownned a shoe stores in Clarksdale and Olive Branch, MS.
ReplyDeleteCostco, among others, has a new coffee table book about Ole Miss football history.
ReplyDeletejackie Simpson played and then coached at Denver and died young. Ken Kirk played several years for the Chicago Bears.
