Carolyn McCarley and Harriet Franklin seem eager to welcome you to the "opening dance". Anyone recall what this was about? A social event, I feel sure.
Anyhow, dances at homes and pavilions were a great thing in this time era. The larger commercial dance halls were expensive and far away from Baldwyn.
Booneville, Rienzi, Fulton, and New Albany had nice teen dance functions. Can you remember others?

ReplyDeleteThis setting looks familiar (the fireplace, heater) but can't remember where...
ReplyDeleteJames D---R&R club probably meant rock & roll back then---now it would stand for retirement & rest/haha----even the dancing fool i myself was back then - i dont remember this - Wayne
ReplyDeleteLooks like Lanny Outlaw's fireplace and mantel at his parent's house on west main street, maybe....,,,
ReplyDeleteWayne, Remember we were practicing for the Dance (bandstand) on channel 9 in Tupelo. We were dancing at different peoples house all over town. So we called it the Baldwyn Rock and Roll Club. I remember we went to your house a few times. This picture was taken in my parents house on North Second street. To the best of my memory there were about 30 of us that were dancing "fools" or maybe just fools.
ReplyDeleteno not fools then--just good kids having good clean fun-trying to remember some of the guys who danced-all the girls did-but the boys were reluctent-there were you,me,Lanny,Paul Jr., John Howard,Tommy Shellnut,Forrest Barber, Milton Wesson,Robert Hugh,Gerald Mcmillan,& others that dont come to mind right now--boy the girls were really after us dancers---provided there were no ball players available/haha
ReplyDeleteThe only one I remeber from the early 60's that went to Channel 9's "Dance Party" was Elaine (Baxter) Palmer. We all thought it was really a big deal.
