Young Baldwyn Men from the 1950s

NEW pic... Harold sent this yearbook photo (above) to show the "other" Jerry Prather in the middle photo. Robert Johnson has the info on him in the comments section.

Young men from Baldwyn in about 1957-59 or so. Correct the year if you know.

The adult on the left is Dennis Meek. The one on the right we're not sure of.

Pictured is: (not in any order) Jackie Cole, Gary Norman, Ted Love, Mansel Pruitt, Tully Lindley, Tommy Palmer, Robert Johnson, Jim Greene, Bobby Burns, The McMillan brothers, Robin Arnold, Huse Woods, Lanny Outlaw, and a few others I have failed to remember. I see a Rowan and a Parker, but cannot recall first names of either.

Lower: Some Bearcat basketball players including Wyatt, Doug, Billy, Harold, David, Dewey, Don, Jerry, Harold Deen, and Joe.

  5. Phil, could that be J.C. Chism? I've searched the Bearcat Annuals of the period and he is the only candidate I've found so far. mc

  7. I went back in the 1959 yearbook and found the unknown scout. He was shown between Sandra Poole and Martha Ann Pratt. According to the yearbook he is Jerry Prather. He was also in the class with Milton Copeland. Maybe Milton remembers him.

  8. Harold, evidently this Jerry Prather (not to be confused with Martha Sue's brother) was only with us a short while. I do not remember him. He is not listed in the 58 or 60 annuals. Maybe someone can jog a memory. mc

  9. I just went through the 1961 Annual and I'm guessing that (the unidentified scout) is Gary Owen. Two other possibilities are Rex Haygood or Kenny Monts.

Milton, I definitely don't think it is J C, but I wouldn't bet my lunch money any of the names I've mentioned

P.S. Milton, what in the world are you doing up a 12:30?

  10. Phil, almost twenty years with Malco Theaters and rarely ever getting home before 2:00 AM must have messed up my biological clock permanently. After several years of retirement I still can't get to sleep before 2:00.

Harold, I've talked to a couple of my classmates and they can't remember that Jerry Prather either. It's comforting to know that I'm not alone in my senility. mc

  11. Milton I'll mail the picture of this Jerry Prather to Carl. In the picture in the yearbook he is wearing the same shirt as he was in the scout picture.

  12. Sharp eyes Harold, you are absolutely right, that is the same shirt. Now I've gotta find someone who can tell me something to spark a memory of him.... mc

  13. Milton you notice that I didn't remember the guy until I went to the yearbook and I don't forget much. I did send his picture from the yearbook to Carl maybe he will enlarge it and put it on the blog. There is a possibilty there was a mistake about this guy's name. The Jerry Prather that we all knew was in the class after this guy.

I think that I remember you attending some explorer scout meetings. Jim Miller was an explorer too; he was with us when we went to Mamouth Cave Kentucky the next summer. J.C. Morris the man on the picture was Debra Morris's father.

  14. HIS NAME IS JERRY RICKS PRATHER, HIS FATHER WAS A CARPENTER AND THEY MOVED HERE FROM BOONEVILLE FOR A YEAR OR TWO AND THEN BACK TO BOONEVILLE. THEY RENTED A HOUSE ON THE HIGHWAY JUST NORTH OF CALDWELL CIRCLE. SEVERAL TIMES WE HITCHIKED TO BOONEVILLE AND USED HIS GRANDMOTHERS' CAR.

  15. RHJ thanks for the info on Jerry Ricks Prather. The name rings a bell but I guess that I never was around him.

  16. The picture of the Explorers was taken when they received their certificate of recognition as an official Explorer Post. That's what Paul Haynes is holding in front of him. I asked my dad about it (JC Morris - he's still active, and will be 92 yrs old on Nov 11th). He was the Explorer advisor for almost 4 yrs, and Dennis Meek was his assistant. I think the trip to Mammoth Caves in Kentucky was a highlight for all the boys; they talked about it for years.

  17. DEBORAH, THAT WAS A GREAT TRIP TO MAMMOTH CAVE THAT WE CAN ALL TALK ABOUT FOR YEARS. SEEMS AS IF IT TOOK FOPREVER ON JIM BARNETTS' SCHOOL BUS. YOU DAD AND DENNIS MEEKS WERE A GREAT INFLUENCE ON ALL OF US. HOW MANY OTHER SCOUT TROOPS GOT TO TAKE ARMY 45'S ON CAMPING TRIPS. WE ALL LEARNED FIREARM SAFETY ON SOME OF THESE CAMPING TRIPS.
