  1. OK, who is in the third photo. I thnk the girl on the right is Patsy Devaughn, am I right? Betty is in the middle and I have no clue who the boy is. Correct me if I'm wrong.

  2. Clarene, I think that is Cynthias' brother, Tully-- and I remember when the picture of me was made, the house in the background is the Rowden and Merle McGuire home on West Main, I am standing in my front yard and if one could look across the street, you could see the Outlaw home where Lanny grew up-- If memory serves Betty (Smith) Massengill took the picture--

  4. Cynthia wanted the old car identified. Well, it is a '48 or '49 Buick.

Melvin, do remember the Cushman motor scooter you had about that time that was so hard to get cranked? The starter pedal was very sharp due to a missing flat end. You kick started it so many times you wore a hole in your shoe from the sharp end!

  5. Yep, we drove that Buick for a while, I think its a 49--sure had a good radio-- regarding the Cushman motor scooter, my dad brought it back from Chicago, it was put in the trunk of a car he drove back, man there was oil everywhere in that trunk--AND it was a pain to start--Red had an Allstate scooter and it would outrun mine hands down until one day mine shifted into high gear and we roared past, right about the school building--wonder what ever happened to that ole piece--
    Man I miss those days---

  9. Don't I recall that one of you scooter pilots laid it down on a gravel road somewhere around Lebanon Mt. and left a large part of hide on the road?

That would be me, David. Scooters don't steer well in newly graveled roads. Six inches of gravel will surely cause problems trying to steer a true course with those little narrow wheels and tires.

That happened south of CR 370 and near Carl Walker's home. I rode a horse without a saddle out there and back, fell off the horse several times, couldn't get back on, and wrecked Wallis' scooter to boot. Showed up at school on Monday with 3 bottles of iodine paint on my still-gravelled left cheek.

What a fun day that was... even learned to roll cigarettes with Prince Albert tobacco that day.

  12. Carl, I didn,t know you did all that--- I was lucky and had no problems with mine however my dad slid it down the road in front of Cynthias house one day-- ( I wasn't allowed to laugh) And speaking of Carl Walker now heres one we haven't thought of in a while, anyone know where he is?

  14. Carl, How about blowing up that 1959 "Bad Bunch" photo. I think I recognize them all, Jackie Cole, David Palmer, Buddy DeVaughn, Wyatt Weatherford, and Jerry Rowan, but can't be completely sure because the picture is so small.

  15. Carl, I second Phil's request. Or, if you don't have the space for it, just email us a full size copy.

    Thanks

  16. Carl (Buster) Walker left about eighth grade or so and moved to Detroit. I know Wallis kept up with him for a long time. He had a younger brother Bill and an older sister Norma Jean who was a good basketball player.

  25. Looking at the picture of Melvin Duke reminds me of going to cub scout meetings at the Duke home in the early 50s. Melvins mother Evelyn was the den mother. They had a TV and most of us didnt. So about all she could get us to do was watch tv. The Mickey Mouse, the news, and Amos and Andy. Mrs. was certainly good to us.
