Peg, Gary was the son of Clyde Oland and Earnestine Harp. Clyde died in 2006 and Earnestine now lives in Wheeler I believe. The family is fairly old in Prentiss County. Gary had a sister Shirley who wed Paul Barnes of Wheeler. Last I heard Gary and wife Jo Ann were living in Zachary, La. This same bunch, including my brother Danny all played ball together back to their Pee Wee days.
Yeah, this was a great team indeed! Gary Harp made one of the best shots I have ever seen during one game. He was being guarded heavily almost to the point of being pushed out of bounds when he simply jumped backwards falling out of bounds just after he released a long high jump shot that only hit the bottom of the net.
Great teamwork!!
ReplyDeleteOne of the best teams of the '60's! Fast and furious action on the court.

I never heard of Gary Harp! Which old family was he from?
ReplyDeleteNever knew any Harps back then, just curious...
Peg Baker
I believe that at least 2 played at the Senior College level including Danny Bishop at Mississippi State.
